What Is Acacia Catechu Extract?

Acacia catechu extract is derived from the heartwood of the Acacia catechu tree, a deciduous species belonging to the Fabaceae family, native to South Asia and widely distributed in India. The extract is produced by boiling the wood in water and evaporating the resulting brew to form a concentrated, dark brown resinous mass. Its primary bioactive constituents are natural polyphenols, predominantly catechins (such as (+)-catechin and (-)-epicatechin) and their derivatives like epigallocatechin-3-O-gallate. Additionally, the extract is rich in natural vegetable tannins, flavonoids (including quercetin), and gallic acid derivatives.
