What Is MK4 (Vitamin K2)?

Menaquinone-4 (MK-4) is a short-chain, fat-soluble form of Vitamin K2 that is predominantly found in animal-based foods such as egg yolks, liver, and cheese. It is also naturally synthesized within human tissues, where the body converts other dietary forms of Vitamin K into MK-4 for targeted use. The active ingredient functions as an essential cofactor for the enzyme gamma-glutamyl carboxylase, which is responsible for activating specific Vitamin K-dependent proteins by facilitating calcium binding.

Product Applications

Bone Health Support

It activates osteocalcin, a crucial protein that binds calcium to the bone matrix, thereby promoting bone mineralization, maintaining bone density, and potentially reducing the risk of fractures.

Cardiovascular Protection

It activates Matrix Gla-Protein (MGP), a potent inhibitor of vascular calcification, which helps direct calcium away from arteries and soft tissues to prevent arterial hardening.

Targeted Tissue Utilization

Unlike longer-chain forms of Vitamin K2, MK-4 is readily distributed to extrahepatic tissues, including the brain, pancreas, and reproductive organs, ensuring localized activation of essential proteins.

Synergistic Nutrient Absorption

When taken alongside calcium, Vitamin D, and magnesium, MK-4 works in synergy to optimize calcium metabolism and ensure the mineral is deposited in the right places.
